What is Cannabis?
Before we start, let us give you guys a brief description of cannabis. Today, we know of 66 cannabinoids that are present in the cannabis plant. Out of these, there are two (2) primary compounds that are mainly responsible for the cannabis plant’s fame and reputation. These are the tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol, more commonly known as THC and CDB, respectively.
THC is the main ingredient that is responsible for the psychoactive and mind-altering effects that cannabis usually produces. The higher the THC level, the stronger the effects may be. On the other hand, CBD is more commonly used for medicinal purposes. Many ailments contain CBD-based extracts that help ease a number of health conditions. However, unlike THC, CBD does not induce any psychoactive effects.

Marijuana and weight are more correlated with each other than people think. During the early 2010s, marijuana consumption was starting to really get into the mainstream. As a result, people came up with some absurd theories and concepts about cannabis and its uses. One such thing was that people claimed that using marijuana resulted in their weight loss. It was hard to believe as first, but since many advocates supported this idea, people began researching the relationship between marijuana and weight loss.
Studies suggest that there actually IS a link to marijuana consumption and losing weight. However, the concept states that weight loss is indirectly achieved by cannabis users. You see, reports show that people who frequently use marijuana have better BMIs than those who do not. Additionally, there is less obesity in the marijuana-smoking population than there is in the non-smoking crowd. So how did this happen?

- Reduces stress and anxiety levels – One of the most common uses of medical marijuana is to lessen the stress and anxiety levels that a patient experiences. Stress is known to affect the body and cause things such as slowed metabolism. As such, this is reduced because of marijuana consumption.
- Improved lifestyle – More sleep, healthier eating, and cannabis-infused food are known to promote a healthier lifestyle. Things such as cannabis tea and hemp seeds are known to improve body functions such as blood circulation and better sleep. All of these lead to a lesser chance of gaining bodyweight.
- Metabolism function in the body is improved – As we stated earlier, many people claim that cannabis improves their metabolism. Well, it is true. Cannabinoids that are consumed interact with cannabis receptors found all over our bodies. The endocannabinoid system plays a part in a person’s metabolism. As such, marijuana may very well speed up a person’s metabolism.
Of course, we have all heard of marijuana strains stimulating a person’s appetite. This is commonly referred to as the “munchies.” Well, there is always this risk but as long as people are aware of this effect, it is easily avoided.
Additionally, there are other marijuana strains that do not stimulate a heavier appetite. In fact, some of them even cause difficulty in eating, which is not necessarily a good thing.

However, cannabis does hold some properties that may indirectly affect the weight of a person. With that being said, it may prove to be an effective cornerstone for people who plan on losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle.
